Eligibility
- Education: Post-wise, as on the closing date of the application form. Examples: BRO JE (Civil) - degree in Civil Engineering, or a 3-year diploma plus 2 years' experience; BRO and MES JE (E&M) - degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a 3-year diploma plus 2 years' experience; CPWD JE (Civil) - diploma in Civil Engineering; CPWD JE (Electrical) - diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; Central Water Commission JE (Civil/Mechanical) - degree or diploma; Brahmaputra Board and Farakka Barrage - diploma. Experience counts only if gained after the qualification. Engineering qualifications obtained through ODL/online mode are not accepted except where recognised as the notice states. The candidate must choose the Civil, Electrical or Mechanical subject matching the qualification and it cannot be changed later.
- Age: Age as on 01-08-2026: up to 30 years for most posts (born 02-08-1996 to 01-08-2008); up to 32 years for CPWD and DG Lighthouses & Lightships (born 02-08-1994 to 01-08-2008). Relaxation: SC/ST 5 years, OBC 3 years, PwBD 10 years (OBC 13, SC/ST 15), ESM 3 years after deducting service.
- Nationality: Citizen of India, subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from the countries listed in the notice to settle in India (the last three need a certificate of eligibility). Only male candidates are eligible for Border Roads Organisation posts.

Paper-I (qualifying; normalized marks shortlist candidates category-wise) -> Paper-II (normalized Paper-II marks decide merit in the 2026 notice) -> post and department allocation by merit-cum-preference (option-cum-preference taken online before the final result, irreversible) -> Document Verification by the user department. SSC keeps no waiting list but used a 'sliding mechanism' (Fix/Float with physical identity verification) in the 2025 cycle to fill vacancies. BRO posts additionally need physical efficiency and medical standards (Annexure XVI). Ties: marks in Part (i) of Paper-I, then Part (ii), then older date of birth, then alphabetical order.
