- Education: Matriculation (10th class) pass from a recognised Board/University on or before 01-01-2026 (the result must have been declared by that date).
- Age: 18-23 years as on 01-01-2026 (born between 02-01-2003 and 01-01-2008). Upper-age relaxation: SC/ST 5 years, OBC 3 years, Ex-Servicemen 3 years after deducting military service, children/dependents of 1984 riot victims 5 years (UR/EWS), 8 years (OBC), 10 years (SC/ST).

Vacancies in the CAPFs and Assam Rifles are state/UT-wise, so a domicile or permanent residence certificate of the state/UT chosen in the form is required at document verification (candidates of Assam are verified by the District Authority; SSF vacancies are all-India).

Selection process
CBE (merit uses normalised marks plus NCC bonus: 5%, 3% or 2% of the maximum marks for NCC C, B, A certificates) -> shortlisting state-wise, area-wise and category-wise for PST/PET (about 8 times the vacancies) -> PST/PET -> DME/DV (about 2 times the vacancies) -> final merit and force allocation by SSC on merit-cum-preference of forces (all seven preferences must be filled in the form). Ties are broken by Part-A marks, then Part-B, then Part-C, then older date of birth, then alphabetical order.
